The Rise of Erotic and Boudoir Photography

The Rise of Erotic and Boudoir Photography

There has been a surge in the interest and popularity surrounding erotic and boudoir photography. While this type of photography has always been around in some form or another. Certainly popular since the 1920s in the United States, there is a present day renaissance resurgence when it comes to erotic imagery and the art form is enjoying a renewed interest from both photographers and subjects alike. Some call the style of photography sensual and intimate, others point to the sheer beauty and sexuality of the human form. Most tend to agree that the form is artistic. Over the years, these photos became more acceptable, especially during the 1970s when they became professional art. Sure, some naysayers will banter about the words alternative and even pornography, but they might not be the audience anyways. Don’t kid yourself though, erotic art has been created since people could draw, surely on some cave somewhere is a line drawing of two people kissing and making love. Regardless, the interest in this art form is at an all-time high and we will not avert our eyes. Let’s take a closer look.

Why is Erotic and Boudoir Photography so Popular?

There are many reasons why erotic and boudoir photography has become so popular in recent years. One reason is a more body-positive form of media. In this social media-driven environment people are increasingly interested in sharing images, both intimate and visually appealing. What better way to do that than with a beautifully shot boudoir photo? Many people use boudoir photos as a way to celebrate their sexuality and feel empowered by their bodies. Whether you’re 18 or 80, there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy feeling sexy!

Erotic and boudoir photography has gained popularity due to a more accessible nature. Thanks to the internet, anyone can find and consume sexy content from their armchair. The difficulty is finding and even affording a professional photographer has decreased significantly, as a result we all get to enjoy more sexy photo content.

The rise of social media has played a significant role in the growth of erotic and boudoir photography. Social media platforms like Instagram have created a safe space for people to share this content with a wider audience than ever before possible. As a result, people are exposed to sexy imagery much more frequently than they were in the past. While professional photographers have always been able to provide high-quality erotic and boudoir photos, advances in technology have made it easier than ever for amateurs and those kept out of the profession to get involved. With the proliferation of DSLR cameras and photo-editing software, anyone interested in photography can produce beautiful images that capture the essence of eroticism.

Who is interested in erotic and boudoir photography?

While there is no one “type” of person who is interested in erotic or boudoir photography, there are certain groups who seem to be particularly drawn to it. Younger people, for example, tend to be more open-minded about sexuality and less afraid to explore their own desires. This is likely due in part to the increased access to information and imagery that we now have thanks to the internet. As times change, so do mindsets.

Couples over 30 and 40, on the other hand, often use boudoir photography as a way to celebrate their sexuality and reaffirm their sexual commitment. After years of being told that sex is something to be ashamed of, many couples and women especially, find liberation in exploring their own desires through erotic styles images.

Erotic and boudoir photography is also popular among couples who often use it as a way to add spice to their sex life, while single people often use it as a source of confidence-boosting self-expression.

Think of what investment photos actually are. They connect us to our past, they remind us of people and places we love. They make us feel the way we felt in those exact moments that had passed. Photographs help us remember all the good stories, all the blissful days and all the genuine smiles.

How to Make Erotic and Boudoir Photography Even Sexier?

While erotic and boudoir photography has become more mainstream, the majority of couple lean on the tame side. More recently there has been a trend of late to find the sexier side of that line. Mostly when people think of boudoir photography they think of a single figure of a woman in sexy pose and often times in lingerie. That pre-conceived imagery is rapidly changing as couples become the focus of boudoir and the term erotic photography continues to take hold. There has been a massive shift in American culture, and the erotic and boudoir industry is reaping the benefits of this change. In addition more men are also treating themselves and opening up to these sultry photo sessions. And why shouldn’t they? If people want to celebrate their bodies, gender shouldn’t get in the way of that.

Aside from the snapshot in time element, many couples want to capture their intimacy. While there are some that would still stigmatize these images with a term like pornography, today’s 21st century couple are very proud of their bodies and their sexuality choices. Some couples focus on innuendo and hints of intimacy like you might find on instagram, while the more daring couples add an element of sex and sexual acts to heat up their photos. That “sexiness” is reflected in sexually suggestive clothing to fetish attire and on to pure nakedness and penetration. An artistic and skillful photographer will be able to guide a couple to the right choices for them.

Another way to make erotic or boudoir photos even sexier is by getting creative with your poses, locations, and props. Instead of just shooting in a studio or bedroom, try taking your photos outdoors or in an unexpected location. Instead of using traditional props like lingerie or flowers, get creative and use items that have personal meaning or even exotic, lush items that can reflect your unique style and tell the story you want told. By thinking outside the box, you can create truly sexy images that stand out from the rest.

How Much Does All This Cost?

Professional erotic-styled photographers will charge anywhere from $300 to $3000 for an hour-long photo shoot, depending on factors such as location, number of outfit changes, hair and makeup requirements, etc. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for… Of course you can find inexpensive as well as high end professionals. On that low side, you may end up paying for each image when you start selecting, the higher end usually ends up with all the photos in your hands. Also note that the more erotic you want your images, the better a photographer you will want to hire.

Many people start by acting as their own photographer and then seeking out the professionals when they feel comfortable. Don’t let money stand in your way of experimentation – all you need is a decent camera, some good lighting, and a willingness to experiment until you get the desired results. Once you start seeing your potential and feel more comfortable, it is time to seek out your photographer.
